A young man named Daniel started his first job at a corporate firm. Unlike many of his colleagues who cut corners and complained about their work, Daniel approached every task with diligence, honesty, and a positive attitude. His coworkers often asked, “Why do you put in so much effort when no one is watching?” Daniel simply smiled and said, “I’m not just working for a paycheck; I’m working for God.” Years later, when he was promoted to leadership, his boss told him, “We’ve watched you. Your integrity and dedication set you apart.” Daniel’s commitment to doing everything as unto the Lord. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” Colossians 3:23. Daniel honored God and impacted those around him. Like Daniel, we often find ourselves in situations where we must choose whether to do things for our benefit or God’s glory. But what does it mean to glorify God in everything we do? And how can we make this a daily reality in our lives?” To glorify God is to do things that honor Him, reflect His nature, and point others to Him. Everything we do can either honor or dishonor Him. God desires that we glorify Him in every aspect of our lives. This is why 1 Corinthians 10:31 says: “So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Here are practical ways you can glorify God in everything you do: 1. Begin Every Day With God The first step to glorifying God in everything you do is to start your day with Him. By doing so, you invite God into every aspect of your life, allowing Him to take charge of your actions and be glorified through them. Jesus exemplified this practice. Mark 1:35 says: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Beginning your day with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship sets the tone for a Christ-centered day. 2. Walk in the Spirit We dishonor God when we live according to the flesh rather than being led by the Spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” To walk in the Spirit means to be continuously aware of God’s presence throughout your day. It involves setting your mind on things above Colossians 3:2, meditating on His Word, and maintaining a prayerful heart 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. 3. Seek to Know the Will of God in Everything A child of God does not simply follow logic or human reasoning but seeks to know God’s will in all things. Ephesians 5:17 warns: “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Something may appear sensible, yet it could be contrary to God’s will. For instance: Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it, and though water came out, God was not glorified, and Moses faced consequences Numbers 20:7-12. King Saul spared some animals for sacrifice, thinking it was a good idea, but God was displeased because it was an act of disobedience 1 Samuel 15:22-23. Glorifying God requires seeking His will above all else. 4. Plan Each Day and Make No Provision for the Flesh A well-structured life leaves little room for distractions that dishonor God. Planning your day under the guidance of the Holy Spirit helps you stay on track. Romans 13:14 says: “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” A disciplined and intentional lifestyle keeps you aligned with God’s will and away from unnecessary temptations. 5. Do Everything As Unto the Lord As seen in Daniel’s story, don’t wait for someone to push you before you do what you need to do. Be diligent, hardworking, and faithful in all things. Colossians 3:23-24 says: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Working with the mindset that God is watching encourages excellence and integrity. 6. Be Committed to Doing Good Works God is a God of excellence. From creation, everything He made was declared “good” Genesis 1:31. As His children, we are called to reflect His excellence in all we do. Matthew 5:16 reminds us: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Commit yourself to excellence in your work, service, and interactions. Avoid anything that is dishonest, mediocre, or shady. 7. Glorify God in Ordinary and Everyday Actions We often overlook small actions, but even the simplest aspects of life can bring glory to God. Romans 12:1 beautifully captures this: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God this is your true and proper worship.” Even basic activities like eating, drinking, and working can glorify God when done with the right heart and gratitude. If you apply these principles consistently, your daily life will reflect the glory of God. And just like Jesus, at the end of your life, you will be able to say: “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” John 17:4 May your life be a continual reflection of God’s glory in all you do!

“For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.” John 5:20 What does the bible mean when it says greater works? Just before the above scripture, Jesus Christ had just found a man at the pool of Bethesda who had an infirmity and had sat there for thirty-eight good years. Jesus Christ having pity towards the man didn’t care what the Jews would say for it was the Sabbath, a day considered to be unlawful to work. Jesus Christ went on to heal the man by telling the man to rise up and take his bed and walk. After the man who was healed departed, he went and told the Jews that it was Jesus Christ who had made him well and for this reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill Him because He had healed on the Sabbath. In His defense, Jesus Christ told the Jews that His Father has been working until now, and He Himself also has been working. On hearing this, the Jews sought to kill Jesus because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. Jesus Christ told the Jews that the Son can do nothing of Himself but does what He sees the Father do, for He does exactly what the Father does. Christ tried to make them understand that the will of God and the relationship He had with God was of much importance than strictly following the customs and the traditions of men. Jesus Christ tried to show them that the relationship that He had with the Father was a perfect one and the source of all that He ever did during His earthly ministry. That He didn’t do anything unless directed by His Father. The above explanation of Jesus Christ shows having a good relationship and communion with God is of more importance than to live a religious life following the laid down customs and traditions of men and women in the form of religion. This is what Jesus Christ comes again to teach when He compares us to the branches in the True Vine. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5 The greatest problem that faced the Pharisees and the Sadducees was spiritual blindness. They were too blind to connect the relationship between the works done by Jesus Christ with the perfect relationship that Jesus Christ had with the Father. This spiritual blindness denied them the opportunity to have a relationship with God and what they did didn’t reflect the will of God. Jesus Christ then reveals to them the secret that we see in our main verse. That since Jesus Christ was walking according to the will of the Father and in great love between them, the Father is willing to show Him all the things that He Himself does and He will even show them greater works than these that they may marvel. In other words, Jesus Christ meant that they should not marvel at only Him healing a man but there are greater things in store that He will perform before their eyes that they will marvel. Things greater than healing. The purpose of all this was to prove to the Pharisees and the Sadducees and all who doubted His ministry that truly He was sent by His Father and indeed He was the Son of God sent from above. The Pharisees and the Sadducees had to witness many greater miracles like the raising up from the dead of Lazarus and Christ’s triumphant defeat over death when He rose up from the dead after three days. These greater works of Jesus Christ did not limit to Himself only, while speaking to His disciples about His departure in the book of John 14, He reveals to them that He is the way, the truth and the life. That in Him is the source of all that they will ever need both on this earth and the days to come and even after their death. Jesus assures to them that in His Father’s mansion there are many rooms and that He is going to prepare a place for them. Christ also reminds them of the connection of everything He ever did with the perfect relationship He has with His Father. That He was in the Father and the Father in Him and that every word that He has ever spoken was not from His own authority but the authority of His Father who dwells in Him and who does all the work they ever saw Him doing. John 14:10 After this Christ promises them one thing in the following verse, “most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I am going to the father.” John 14:12 The question that we should again ask ourselves is, what did Jesus Christ mean when He said that he who will believe in Him will do greater works than these? Does it mean that that those who would believe in Him would outdo what Jesus Christ did? I don’t believe so, Jesus Christ in the above scripture wasn’t comparing His work to what those who will believe in will do as no one can outdo what Jesus Christ did or does. The Bible says that in Christ Jesus all things were created. Colossians 1:16. Therefore no man has power to create another universe just the same way Jesus Christ did. What Jesus Christ meant in the above scripture is the spiritual connection that those who would believe in Him would have. That through faith in Christ Jesus one becomes one with the Son and the Father comes and dwells in Him. Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23. This is one of the scriptures that if all believers in Christ Jesus knew about would really turn the world upside down by doing greater works. This means that it is no longer about the effort of a believer but the power that dwells him. Paul prays for the church in Ephesus that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. That their eyes of understanding may be enlightened and that they may know what is the hope of His calling and the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. The same mighty power that worked in Christ Jesus when God raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:17-20. What great power is residing in believers? Therefore, whoever believes in Jesus Christ becomes an instrument in which God dwells therefore just the same way Jesus Christ did greater works, also those who believe will do greater works. This simply means what a believer in Christ Jesus can do can never be compared to what a non-believers can do. It takes knowledge and enlightenment of the eyes of believers to realize this truth and walk in it. The greater works that believers will do doesn’t depend on their personal efforts but on the one who is in them. Therefore, they should always work out their salvation with fear and trembling. “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12-13 This greater works is more of the miraculous power that may be seen in each individual believer who exercises their authority, position and power in Christ Jesus. The gospel and the church through the mighty power that worked in the Apostles expanded to many nations apart from Jerusalem. This is exactly how Jesus Christ predicted the expansion of the kingdom of God while comparing to the mustard seed. That the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field. Which indeed is the least of all the seeds but when it is grown it is bigger than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and rest in its branches. Mathews 13:32 Right now, most of us are a product of greater works that happened through the hands of the Apostles and the Prophets Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. Ephesians 2:20. God has already empowered us to expand His Kingdom further till all the corners of the world have been reached by the gospel.

Depending on the Lord is the paramount thing to every Christian. He is the source of our life, He is the reason we are saved. The Lord knows the best, He has been in existence before us so He knows the right thing for us Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. We, therefore, must not depend on our own power, Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” A new life begins when we surrender everything including our life to Christ. Firstly, you should know that surrendering your life to Christ means you believe in Him for direction in life. You let the flesh step down for the new life in Christ to take over, ” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old one has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17. You used to depend on your limited powers before, but now the life you have you must depend on the Lord alone for the true direction. In the course of depending on God, should we now be lazy not doing anything or expecting God to come down himself and do things for us? Even though God, being the Almighty, has the power to do that but still, He wants us to work and then depend on Him for a positive result James 2:26 “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” Let’s consider Joshua, he was told by God never to worry on how to lead the Israelites Joshua 1:5-9, God’s encouragement alone can make Joshua relax and hope God will come down to fight their battles while just sitting down and not strategizing. Jesus also, depending on God didn’t for that reason jump down from the top of the temple when Satan instructed him to. If depending on God is the paramount thing for Christians and yet for the fact that you are depending on God, you must still work your way and never act in a foolish manner, then how can you depend on Him? Surrender To Christ and Follow Him You cannot just depend on the LORD by saying alone but by taking actions that show that you depend on Him which include surrendering to Him. You must let Him know that you have no power of your own and now you want to depend on Him for the best. You cannot deceive God by just saying you depend on Him with your mouth and not with your heart Job 13:9,“Would it turn out well if He examined you? Could you deceive Him as you might deceive a mortal?” Dwell in Christ After surrendering to Christ, you must remain in Him. Doing this helps to boost your trust in Him. Jesus himself said we should abide in Him always John 15:4. The reason for this is because abiding in Him means we are depending on Him for safety Psalm 91:1; Psalm 121. It is when we abide in Him that He will fulfill all He has promised in us. Deeds and Faith You may be wondering why deeds has to be included. Deeds follows faith, they are together because the Bible stated that “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” James 2:26. As depending on God is necessary for this Christian journey so also having faith is. If you don’t have faith in God, then you cannot depend on him. So to depend on God you must have faith in him and believe he rewards those that seek Him diligently Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Obey His Word and Claim The Promises In It The word of God is full of promises and also meant to correct us, it is a manual guide to us. The Scripture is God-breathed 2 Timothy 3:16 and we must read it. God ordered Joshua to read this word daily so as to have good success, He knew reading the word would make him depend on God for good success. Watch and Pray Prayer is a way to communicate with God, it is a connection that we must maintain. When you pray, you show that you’re depending on him for whatever you ask from Him. Jesus wants to boost our dependence on God when he said “pray continually” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. It not good enough to pray alone, that is why Jesus advised in Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This helped Jesus when he was tempted by Satan to jump from the top of the temple, if He had not watched and observed, He could have fallen for it because it is written “He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11. Jesus could have, for the sake of depending on God, fell for it but He watched. Give Thanks in All Circumstances In whatever situation you find yourself, don’t stop giving thanks. Thank Him for what He has done and for the ones He will do. By doing that you are depending much more on Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” “Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment.” “And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” Mathew 22: 37-38 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40.31

Faith, as defined in Hebrews 11:1, is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. In other words, you know it has happened though it is not visible to the eye. This is because you have the substance or evidence in the word of God. You believe it because God said it. Normally, the nature of faith calls for perseverance. You are compelled to wait, to hope and expect the delivery of your expectation. If you are hasty or always in a hurry, you cannot walk with God in faith. This is because “whoever believes will not act hastily” Isaiah 28:16. Unfortunately, we live in a rapid age. There are some people that want things to happen fast and there are also some people who believe that if things aren’t happening quick in their life, it’s probably because they may not be smart. This mentality is depriving us of getting God’s best for our lives. God is not slow but it takes a great deal of time for us to fully align with His plans and purpose for our lives. It takes time to fully develop the capacity required to receive what we are expecting from Him. At the time of desperation, we are often not ready for what we are praying for. Our character, habits and lifestyle cannot accommodate the blessings we are seeking. Hence, God is compelled to withhold the blessing while He works on our character defects. This is why the seeming sluggishness or delay of God is actually the sluggishness on our part to grow up; to mature and develop the required understanding that we need to operate in the blessings of God. His divine power has already supplied everything we need to live a good and godly life 2 Peter 1:3. All we need to do is grow up into these things in order to enjoy them. One unique story of faith and perseverance is that of Zacharias and Elizabeth. The Scripture made it clear that “they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless” Luke 1:6. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years Luke 1:7. Zacharias and Elizabeth’s story immediately debunks that paradigm that one is evil if things aren’t going well with you. Both were righteous before God but they had no child. But they eventually had John, the forerunner of Jesus at a time judged by man as late. Now, this is God’s wisdom – there was no way John will go before Jesus and prepare His way if he had been born in the first year of Zacharias and Elizabeth’s marriage. It seems that in God’s eternal plan, John was destined to prepare Jesus’ way and was meant to come through Zacharias and Elizabeth and all these were timed in God’s program. While they were preoccupied with having a child and getting rid of the reproach, God was watching the timing of His purpose for their lives. In the process, they learned, they grew, they understood and persevered until God came through.

Just like a young adult begins to feel the demands of his/her parents are becoming too much, we all have that tendency to live independent of God. We want to live our own lives at our own terms; to take decisions without His counsel and run without His command. It takes a lot of spiritual maturity to come to that place where we are completely dependent on God; where we have learned to wait on Him before we make a move. Most of the time, we only come to depend on Him after we have experienced failure or a setback. God, sometimes, in His infinite mercies allow such failures so we can learn how to depend on Him. But we don’t have to experience failure before we learn how to rest and rely on Him. The question then is, how can we depend on God? Understand that God is Your Source: We came from God. He is our Source and his source sustains us. We cannot live apart from Him. In John 15, Jesus describes us as branches of the Vine, Him being the Vine. Then He went ahead to say that apart from Him we can do nothing (John15:1-8). Acts 17:28 says “For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring” NKJV. To live apart from Him is to cut ourselves off of life. God cannot fail: He is reliable. We can trust Him. We can depend on Him. We can count on Him. He is not a man that He should lie. He will keep all His promises and appointments with us. The Scriptures show us God’s track record. There is not a single place where God failed. He will always come through for those who wait, love and trust Him. God has All the resources we Need: He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). As a matter of fact, His divine power has given to us all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). In other words, He has made provisions for all we need. He has also promised to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. Learn To Spend Time With Him: We cannot depend on God in the power or energy of the flesh. We must learn to spend time with Him in private and personal prayer and study of His word. It is in this secret place that we actually learn to trust and surrender to Him. Without a vital and flourishing relationship with God, we cannot learn how to depend on Him. Finally, God’s word says, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength. But you would not, and you said, “No, for we will flee on horses” — Therefore you shall flee! And, “We will ride on swift horses” — Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!” (Isaiah 30:15-16 NKJV). May we receive grace to trust and totally depend on God.
We are in a time when there are some people that are losing their faith in God. God looks for a remnant, people through whom He will reveal to the world that He is still God irrespective of the challenges. He needs people who will still put their trust and faith in Him in a time like this. So, how are others helped when I put my faith in God? How can my faith positively impact others? Hebrews 6:11-12 says, “And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” NKJV Faith is defined in scripture as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11.1. You will not become bored with being a Christian nor become spiritually dull and indifferent. The Christian life is boring without faith. One soon becomes spiritually dull and indifferent. The fervor and drive is lost without that inner knowing that something great lies ahead of us. This is why so many are losing their faith. They have come to a point where they can no longer see a future with God. However, this scripture also shows us one way our faith can be helped or reignited. It says, we can follow the example of those who receive all that God has promised them because of their strong faith and patience. In other words, when we see someone who went through what we are going through, we become inspired to go through it. To bring this point home, the writer of Hebrews began to give us examples that we can relate with. In Hebrews 6:13-15 for instance, there is God’s promise to Abraham… Abraham waited patiently until finally God gave him a son, Isaac, just as he had promised. This is the biggest way your faith in God helps others. You become God’s example to your generation. You become the go-to person when God needs to encourage or inspire another person. You become an inspiration, the person from whom others draw comfort in during their trial and tribulations. Think of Joseph and Job. Why do we read stories of Esther, Hannah, Ruth and the host of others? It is simply because they are God’s prototype of what it means to have faith. Your faith in God gives you a ministry to others; a ministry you will never have if you have never put your trust in God. Our faith in God gives us the opportunity to reach out to people; they are compelled to ask and know about our God. You become the reference point before God and man. This is why you should never be part of those “who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” Hebrews 10:39 NKJV. God bless you. Why Do Christians and Non Christians Need Help From God?
