Depending on the Lord is the paramount thing to every Christian. He is the source of our life, He is the reason we are saved. The Lord knows the best, He has been in existence before us so He knows the right thing for us Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. We, therefore, must not depend on our own power, Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” A new life begins when we surrender everything including our life to Christ. Firstly, you should know that surrendering your life to Christ means you believe in Him for direction in life. You let the flesh step down for the new life in Christ to take over, ” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old one has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17. You used to depend on your limited powers before, but now the life you have you must depend on the Lord alone for the true direction. In the course of depending on God, should we now be lazy not doing anything or expecting God to come down himself and do things for us? Even though God, being the Almighty, has the power to do that but still, He wants us to work and then depend on Him for a positive result James 2:26 “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” Let’s consider Joshua, he was told by God never to worry on how to lead the Israelites Joshua 1:5-9, God’s encouragement alone can make Joshua relax and hope God will come down to fight their battles while just sitting down and not strategizing. Jesus also, depending on God didn’t for that reason jump down from the top of the temple when Satan instructed him to. If depending on God is the paramount thing for Christians and yet for the fact that you are depending on God, you must still work your way and never act in a foolish manner, then how can you depend on Him? Surrender To Christ and Follow Him You cannot just depend on the LORD by saying alone but by taking actions that show that you depend on Him which include surrendering to Him. You must let Him know that you have no power of your own and now you want to depend on Him for the best. You cannot deceive God by just saying you depend on Him with your mouth and not with your heart Job 13:9,“Would it turn out well if He examined you? Could you deceive Him as you might deceive a mortal?” Dwell in Christ After surrendering to Christ, you must remain in Him. Doing this helps to boost your trust in Him. Jesus himself said we should abide in Him always John 15:4. The reason for this is because abiding in Him means we are depending on Him for safety Psalm 91:1; Psalm 121. It is when we abide in Him that He will fulfill all He has promised in us. Deeds and Faith. You may be wondering why deeds has to be included. Deeds follows faith, they are together because the Bible stated that “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” James 2:26. As depending on God is necessary for this Christian journey so also having faith is. If you don’t have faith in God, then you cannot depend on him. So to depend on God you must have faith in him and believe he rewards those that seek Him diligently Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Obey His Word and Claim The Promises In It The word of God is full of promises and also meant to correct us, it is a manual guide to us. The Scripture is God-breathed 2 Timothy 3:16 and we must read it. God ordered Joshua to read this word daily so as to have good success, He knew reading the word would make him depend on God for good success. Watch and Pray Prayer is a way to communicate with God, it is a connection that we must maintain. When you pray, you show that you’re depending on him for whatever you ask from Him. Jesus wants to boost our dependence on God when he said “pray continually” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. It not good enough to pray alone, that is why Jesus advised in Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This helped Jesus when he was tempted by Satan to jump from the top of the temple, if He had not watched and observed, He could have fallen for it because it is written “He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11. Jesus could have, for the sake of depending on God, fell for it but He watched. Give Thanks in All Circumstances In whatever situation you find yourself, don’t stop giving thanks. Thank Him for what He has done and for the ones He will do. By doing that you are depending much more on Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!” Luke 18:28 Surrendering to the will of God is the expectation of God from all His followers. He himself Has the Master plan of everyone’s life, and His plans are of peace and not of evil(Jeremiah 29:11) for us to function according to His plan for our life expected end. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a perfect example of total submission to God, he made a declaration that shows the secret of his strength, and how to continuously strong and victorious in the battles of life. In John 4:34, “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” What does food do for our body? It gives us strength. It gives us all the vitamins, the proteins, and the energy that we need to keep us going. It boosts our immune system so we can overcome every sickness, every weakness, every virus, or germs that tries to attack our body and break us down. Moreover, food gives us pleasure. Every healthy person takes delight in eating good food. Looking at the message of Jesus in this scripture, what food does to our physical body is what doing God’s will and finishing His work does to our spiritual life and yes our entire life. What are some of the ways we can surrender our schedules to God? The number one way is to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Surrendering all to him means we have accepted his lordship and will believe in the salvation which is in him. We must be obedient, “If we are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” Isaiah 1:19 Be connected with Him through His word. ” I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.” “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119: 104-105 Prayer. Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.” Luke 18:1-2. We must give the best of our time to prayer. Jesus led by example and we must follow suit according to the instruction He has given to us. Fellowship with children of God: “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 Today, decide to make your life a pleasurable, find out God’s plan for your life and let it be your delight in following God’s plan and schedule for you. Whatever is outside of God’s will for your life, as revealed in the words of God and by the Holy Spirit, stay out of it by all means. Let it be your joy and delight doing God’s work and to finish whatever assignment He has given to you, and you will find yourself going from glory to glory.

A young man named Daniel started his first job at a corporate firm. Unlike many of his colleagues who cut corners and complained about their work, Daniel approached every task with diligence, honesty, and a positive attitude. His coworkers often asked, “Why do you put in so much effort when no one is watching?” Daniel simply smiled and said, “I’m not just working for a paycheck; I’m working for God.” Years later, when he was promoted to leadership, his boss told him, “We’ve watched you. Your integrity and dedication set you apart.” Daniel’s commitment to doing everything as unto the Lord. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” Colossians 3:23. Daniel honored God and impacted those around him. Like Daniel, we often find ourselves in situations where we must choose whether to do things for our benefit or God’s glory. But what does it mean to glorify God in everything we do? And how can we make this a daily reality in our lives?” To glorify God is to do things that honor Him, reflect His nature, and point others to Him. Everything we do can either honor or dishonor Him. God desires that we glorify Him in every aspect of our lives. This is why 1 Corinthians 10:31 says: “So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Here are practical ways you can glorify God in everything you do: 1. Begin Every Day With God The first step to glorifying God in everything you do is to start your day with Him. By doing so, you invite God into every aspect of your life, allowing Him to take charge of your actions and be glorified through them. Jesus exemplified this practice. Mark 1:35 says: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Beginning your day with God through prayer, Bible study, and worship sets the tone for a Christ-centered day. 2. Walk in the Spirit We dishonor God when we live according to the flesh rather than being led by the Spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 says: “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.” To walk in the Spirit means to be continuously aware of God’s presence throughout your day. It involves setting your mind on things above Colossians 3:2, meditating on His Word, and maintaining a prayerful heart 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. 3. Seek to Know the Will of God in Everything A child of God does not simply follow logic or human reasoning but seeks to know God’s will in all things. Ephesians 5:17 warns: “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Something may appear sensible, yet it could be contrary to God’s will. For instance: Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it, and though water came out, God was not glorified, and Moses faced consequences Numbers 20:7-12. King Saul spared some animals for sacrifice, thinking it was a good idea, but God was displeased because it was an act of disobedience 1 Samuel 15:22-23. Glorifying God requires seeking His will above all else. 4. Plan Each Day and Make No Provision for the Flesh A well-structured life leaves little room for distractions that dishonor God. Planning your day under the guidance of the Holy Spirit helps you stay on track. Romans 13:14 says: “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” A disciplined and intentional lifestyle keeps you aligned with God’s will and away from unnecessary temptations. 5. Do Everything As Unto the Lord As seen in Daniel’s story, don’t wait for someone to push you before you do what you need to do. Be diligent, hardworking, and faithful in all things. Colossians 3:23-24 says: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Working with the mindset that God is watching encourages excellence and integrity. 6. Be Committed to Doing Good Works God is a God of excellence. From creation, everything He made was declared “good” Genesis 1:31. As His children, we are called to reflect His excellence in all we do. Matthew 5:16 reminds us: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Commit yourself to excellence in your work, service, and interactions. Avoid anything that is dishonest, mediocre, or shady. 7. Glorify God in Ordinary and Everyday Actions We often overlook small actions, but even the simplest aspects of life can bring glory to God. Romans 12:1 beautifully captures this: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God this is your true and proper worship.” Even basic activities like eating, drinking, and working can glorify God when done with the right heart and gratitude. If you apply these principles consistently, your daily life will reflect the glory of God. And just like Jesus, at the end of your life, you will be able to say: “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” John 17:4 May your life be a continual reflection of God’s glory in all you do!

David sat in a crowded café, waiting for his friend. As he sipped his coffee, he overheard a conversation at the next table. A young man was venting about how lost he felt in life. David hesitated. Should he say something? Would the stranger be offended? Then he remembered when someone shared the gospel with him in a similar moment of uncertainty. Taking a deep breath, he leaned over and said, “Hey, I couldn’t help but overhear. I’ve been in a place where life felt empty. But I found something—or rather, someone—who changed everything for me. Can I share my story with you?” That small step led to a life-changing conversation. This story illustrates how simple moments in our daily lives can become divine opportunities to spread the gospel. Jesus Christ gave a clear command to His disciples just before He left the world, and consequently to us: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” Mark 16:15. Since commands are meant to be obeyed, it is the responsibility of every believer to “preach the gospel to all creation,” this implies that every person we meet deserves and needs to hear the gospel. However, a question that often confronts us is: How do we share the gospel with others? Like David in the story above, we are often unsure of what to say, how to say it, and whether the timing is right. We may also feel inadequate to share the gospel. Here are some practical ways we can spread the gospel effectively: 1. Give Yourself Over to God Sometimes, our challenge is not that we don’t know how to share the gospel, but that we have not yielded ourselves to God. We are preoccupied with serving our own purposes and making ends meet. The gospel is not a priority. We are not seeking His kingdom first. Knowing how to spread the gospel begins with realigning our priorities. We must allow Jesus to become the Lord of our time. When we do, it becomes less difficult to find opportunities to share the gospel. 2. Live Out the Gospel The most powerful way to share the gospel is to preach it with your life. Live in such a way that, without speaking, people can see Jesus in you. No matter how many words we speak, our message will be ineffective if we live contrary to the Word of God. This is why Jesus referred to us as witnesses—people who have experienced and are experiencing the power of the gospel. It is easy to share what you have genuinely encountered. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” Matthew 5:14. Isaiah 60:3 reinforces this truth: “The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Our lives must shine before others, drawing them to Christ. 3. Share Your Personal Testimony Your personal story is one of the most effective ways to share the gospel. While Bible stories are powerful, the gospel becomes even more relatable when people see its impact in your own life. A genuine experience of salvation is indispensable—you cannot give what you don’t have. Sharing your personal testimony is also a non-confrontational way to evangelize. People may not believe in the gospel yet, but they cannot deny your testimony. In John 9, the blind man who was healed by Jesus confidently told the Pharisees: “One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see” John 9:25. Paul also frequently shared his conversion story on the road to Damascus whenever he had the opportunity to preach. When you are unsure of what to say, your personal story is a great place to start. 4. Be Creative Avoid being too formal or rigid in your approach. Evangelism doesn’t require a professional method—just a willingness to be led by the Holy Spirit. Look for creative ways to start conversations about the gospel. Jesus did this often. He used language and situations familiar to His audience. When calling Peter and his brothers, He spoke in their terms as fishermen: “Come follow Me, and I will send you out to fish for people” Matthew 4:19. They immediately understood and followed Him. At the well in Samaria, Jesus used water—something the woman needed—to introduce Himself as the Living Water. Paul also applied this approach in Athens when he saw a temple dedicated to an unknown god. He used it as an entry point to preach Jesus Acts 17:23. There is always a creative way to share the gospel if we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit. 5. Engage in Practical Evangelism There are many simple yet effective ways to share the gospel, including: Using gospel tracts—Give them directly to people or leave them in strategic places. Inviting people to church or Christian programs where they can hear the God’s Word. Using social media and digital platforms—Write posts, share videos, or use live streams to reach a larger audience. Taking advantage of personal occasions—Weddings, birthdays, and special gatherings provide opportunities to introduce Christ. Ultimately, spreading the gospel starts with a willingness to obey the Great Commission and making yourself available. “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” Luke 10:2. Will you enlist as one of God’s workers? God has promised to be with us as we share the gospel: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” Matthew 28:20. Step out in faith and be a messenger of His Good News today!

Occasionally, believers get into the discussion about whether water baptism is necessary or not. The point of debate is whether it has anything to do with our salvation since all we have to do is confess our sins and put our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Meanwhile, several scriptural references compellingly show us the significance of water baptism in connection to our faith in Jesus Christ. Water baptism is the process of immersing someone who has professed his or her faith in Jesus Christ in a large pool of water and bringing out the person after being completely submerged. It is an important practice in Christianity and part of the public identification process with the Body of Christ. Baptism signifies your new life in Jesus Christ and proclaims that you are now committed to Jesus. The following are some of the reasons, as seen in the scriptures, why every believer in Jesus Christ should be baptized: Jesus’ Example Jesus Himself was baptized in water by John the Baptist, setting an example for all believers. In Matthew 3:13-17, Jesus came to John to be baptized, saying it was necessary to “fulfil all righteousness.” His baptism marked the beginning of His public ministry, symbolizing His identification with humanity’s need for repentance and righteousness. Recall that John the Baptist was preaching the message of repentance and it was those who were turning away from their sins that got baptized. If Jesus, who knew no sin, deemed it necessary to be baptized, how much should every believer who is being saved from sin go through the process of baptism? The Great Commission Jesus didn’t just set the example of baptism by going through it, He commands everyone who believes in Him to observe it. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands His disciples to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” This command shows that baptism is part of the process of becoming a disciple of Christ, symbolizing entrance into the Christian community. Therefore, when someone decides to undergo baptism, the individual is obeying the commandment of Jesus Christ. In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” It will be bizarre to be a believer in Jesus Christ and live in disobedience to His unambiguous commandment. Baptism, being one of His commands, is an expression of love and obedience to Him. The Apostles and the Early Church Observed Baptism The apostles and the early church fathers observed baptism as an act of obedience to the commandment of Jesus Christ to baptize anyone who believes. There are at least eight instances of water baptism in the Acts of the Apostles. They include; The Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:38-41) The Samaritans (Acts 8:12-13) The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:36-38) Saul/Paul (Acts 9:17-18) Cornelius and His Household (Acts 10:47-48) Lydia and Her Household (Acts 16:14-15) The Philippian Jailer and His Household (Acts 16:31-33) The Disciples of John in Ephesus (Acts 19:3-5) These instances in Acts demonstrate the early church’s consistent practice of water baptism as a response to faith in Jesus Christ. Identification with Christ’s Death and Resurrection In Romans 6:3-4, Paul explains that baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Being submerged in water represents dying to sin, and coming up out of the water symbolizes being raised to new life in Christ. Repentance and Forgiveness In Acts 2:38, Peter tells the crowd, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Baptism is associated with repentance, the forgiveness of sins, and the reception of the Holy Spirit. Union with Christ In Galatians 3:27, the Bible says, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus and symbolizes the believer’s union with Him. Baptism Is Connected To Salvation In 1 Peter 3:20-21, Peter described how the family of Noah was saved through the water of the flood. Then, he went on to say, “Those flood waters were like baptism that now saves you…” All of the examples of baptism listed in Acts were connected to the moment when people got saved. In Mark 16:16, Jesus said, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved…” While salvation in Jesus Christ is rooted in our faith in His finished work on the cross, baptism in water is a very strong component of it. A Clear Conscience Also, 1 Peter 3:21 describes baptism as “an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” It is a public expression of faith and an inward appeal to God for a clear conscience, made possible by the resurrection of Jesus. Baptism Can Open Up Other Spiritual Blessings Matthew 3:16 says, “When He (Jesus) had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.” Not only that, a voice from heaven followed that confirmed Jesus as the Son of God. One is poised to ask why the blessing of the Holy Spirit was withheld until the moment Jesus got baptized. In Acts 2:28, Peter also said that when people repent and are baptized, they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps, certain spiritual blessings cannot be accessed without baptism. In summary, baptism is an important step of obedience, symbolizing a believer’s identification with Christ, the forgiveness of sins, and a new life in Him. It is a public declaration of faith and commitment to following Jesus. Yes, baptism doesn’t necessarily save us; faith in Jesus is what saves but you shouldn’t deliberately ignore baptism if you are saved.

The Bible likened faith in Jesus Christ to giving birth to a baby. It is called spiritual birth. Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed to be born again John 3:3, 5-8. Therefore, just as a baby born into the physical world needs a lot of help and support so is someone newly born into God’s family. Also, the experience of a believer at the time of spiritual birth will lay the foundation for his/her Christian experience throughout his/her life. The righteous can run into a crisis if the foundation is faulty. This is why a new believer needs proper and utmost spiritual attention at the time of spiritual birth. The following are some things that can be done to help a new believer: Help Them Understand Their New Identity in Christ People tend to trivialize their spiritual experience because it doesn’t feel spectacular. Not many believers will go through a dramatic conversion experience like that of Paul on the road to Damascus. All a person needs to do to be saved is acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Lord and confess Him with your mouth Romans 10:9-10. This is why it is important to help new believers understand the implications of their commitment and who they are in Jesus Christ. For example, in 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul teaches that anyone in Christ is a new creation, with old things passing away and new things coming. Helping new believers understand their new identity in Christ is key to helping them overcome past struggles and live out their faith boldly. Feed Them With the Right Spiritual Diet. There is a scriptural prescription for the kind of spiritual food a new believer should eat. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” The ultimate goal is to help a new believer grow in his knowledge of God and this requires “the pure milk of the word.” Hebrews 5:12-13 also confirmed that what a new believer needs is the milk of the word. It says, “…you need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.” New believers must be helped to find this milk so that they can grow. Encourage Fellowship, Community and an Environment of Love and Support In Hebrews 10:24-25, the writer of Hebrews encourages believers to not forsake assembling together but to encourage one another. New believers need a community where they can grow, receive support, and be encouraged. Helping them connect with a church or small group is essential for their spiritual growth. Pray and Intercede for Them Consistently In Ephesians 1:16-18, Paul consistently prayed for the believers he discipled, asking God to give them wisdom and revelation to know Him better. Praying for new believers is crucial, asking God to strengthen their faith, protect them from spiritual attacks, and guide them in their journey. In Galatians 4:19, Paul’s prayer for the Galatians highlights the kind of prayer that ought to be prayed for new believers. He said, “My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you.” Seeing believers become mature until Christ is formed in them should be at the center of the prayer for new believers. Avoid Condemnation When They Make Mistakes Just like growing-up kids, new believers are bound to slip as they learn to walk with God. The way the situation is handled by mature believers around them can determine the quality of their experience in their journey as Christians. Galatians 6:1 instructs, “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” Instead of condemnation, the goal should be restoration in the spirit of gentleness. Avoid Giving Responsibilities Beyond the Ability of the Believer Sometimes, the church tends to make the mistake of showing off new believers with spectacular testimonies of deliverance from the kingdom of darkness when they ought to sit down and learn the tenets of the faith. Such unripe exposure to spiritual responsibilities may be harmful to their spiritual experience. Teach the Basics of the Faith In the early church, new believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer Acts 2:42-47. You can help new believers by teaching them the foundational truths of the faith, such as understanding who Jesus is, the significance of His death and resurrection, and the importance of prayer and Scripture. Model a Christlike Life Paul told the Corinthians to imitate him as he imitates Christ, 1 Corinthians 11:1. New believers often learn by observing more mature Christians. By living out your faith authentically, you provide an example for them to follow in their own walk with Christ. Provide Ongoing Discipleship and Accountability Jesus’ Great Commission instructs us to make disciples, teaching them to observe everything He commanded, Matthew 28:19-20. Discipleship isn’t a one-time event but an ongoing process. Walk alongside new believers, guiding them through the Scriptures, answering their questions, and helping them apply biblical principles to their lives. Hold them accountable until they begin to observe all the commandments of Jesus. Encourage them to Share Their Faith The Samaritan woman at the well immediately shared her encounter with Jesus, leading many in her town to believe in Him as recorded in John 4:28-30, 39. Encourage new believers to share their faith with others, as it strengthens their own belief and helps spread the gospel. By applying these biblical principles, you can effectively support and encourage new believers in their journey with Christ.

Picture this: You’re at a family gathering, surrounded by laughter, love, and the tantalizing aroma of your grandma’s famous apple pie. As you eagerly anticipate dessert, your uncle bursts into the room, holding a beautifully wrapped present. “Surprise!” he exclaims, as he hands you the gift. With bated breath, you unwrap it to reveal… a dusty old encyclopedia from the 1980s. Now, before you start wondering if your uncle took a wrong turn in the attic, let me assure you—this isn’t just any encyclopedia. It’s a metaphor for something far more profound and life-changing: the New Covenant. For ages, man sought a way to reconnect to God after the fall in the Garden of Eden. Recall that man flaunted the commandment of God not to eat the forbidden fruit. Consequently, he became naked, and fearful and ultimately lost his connection with God. He was lost. For the first time, God asked a very unusual question, “Adam, where are you?” This question suggests that man was indeed lost. God was also looking for man. And right from that time, efforts were made to get the man back to God. Through the Scriptures, we see pockets of God’s manifestation through individuals. For example, Enoch walked with God, and Noah built the ark. Then, God began the process of redemption through a man called Abram (later called Abraham). This culminated in a nation called Israel. God raised a leader called Moses who led the people of Israel into making a covenant with God. In a loud and frightening celebration, God came down and presented the law to His people (Exodus 20). It was supposed to be the dawn of a new day. Unfortunately, this covenant had several defects. People couldn’t get close to God which was the ultimate desire of God. They were terrified by the thundering, the lightning and the smoke from the mountain. They asked Moses to meet God on their behalf and simply tell them what God is saying (Exodus 20:18-19). People couldn’t stop sinning. Several animals were killed daily to appease God. The sin-problem that separated man from God was not solved. The blood of bulls, doves and goats was not potent enough propitiate for the sin of man. God’s law was written on tables of stone. So, people easily forget the commandments of God. They couldn’t keep their hearts focused on God. Sometimes, they had to write these laws in several places so that they will not forget. God’s Spirit only rested on selected few. “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second” (Hebrews 8:7). Therefore, there was a need for a better covenant; a new covenant that caters for all the deficiencies of the old. And after several years of waiting, the New Covenant was born when Jesus Christ was born. The New Covenant represents a new relationship between God and humanity, mediated through Jesus Christ (Hebrews 8:6). It is prophesied in the Old Testament (Jeremiah 31:31-34) and established by Jesus during his ministry on earth. In essence, the New Covenant is characterized by grace, forgiveness, and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Unlike the Old Covenant, which was based on adherence to the Mosaic Law and rituals, the New Covenant is based on faith in Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. In the New Covenant, there is; Forgiveness of Sins: Through Jesus’ death on the cross, believers receive forgiveness for their sins, reconciling them to God (Matthew 26:28, Hebrews 9:15). There is no longer a need to keep shedding the blood of innocent animals, Jesus Christ paid the price once and for all through His death on the cross. Personal Relationship with God: The New Covenant offers believers direct access to God through Jesus Christ, without the need for intermediaries (Hebrews 4:16, 10:19-22). Every child of God can now come boldly to the throne of grace. This is the significance of the tearing of the curtain of the sanctuary from top to bottom at the death of Jesus on the cross (Matthew 27:51). Access to the holy of holies is no longer the exclusive privilege of the priests, everyone can now come in. Empowerment by the Holy Spirit: Believers receive the Holy Spirit, who dwells within them, guiding, empowering, and transforming them to live according to God’s will (Acts 2:38, Romans 8:9-11). Unlike the Old Covenant where only a select few possess the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, everyone in the New Covenant is now eligible to the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Eternal Life: The New Covenant promises believers eternal life with God in heaven, secured through faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16, Romans 6:23). Symbolized by the Sacrament of Communion and Water Baptism: During communion, Christians partake in the bread and wine, representing the body and blood of Jesus Christ, in remembrance of his sacrifice and the establishment of the New Covenant. The water baptism also symbolizes his death and resurrection. When a believer is immersed in water, he or she identifies with His death and His resurrection when the person is lifted out of the water into a new life. Overall, the New Covenant represents God’s ultimate expression of love and redemption for humanity, offering hope and salvation to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. With the New Covenant, man has no reason to blame the first Adam for his sins anymore because the second Adam has been sent. “But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many” (Romans 5:15). Jesus Christ has eliminated sin and its consequences. We can now come boldly to the throne of grace. We can now serve God without fear all the days of our lives. We can now claim everything we lost in the Garden of Eden. We can live the same life Jesus lived while He was on the earth. Hallelujah!

There are nearly 4,000 recognized faiths around the globe though almost 75 percent of the people in the world follow one of the five main faiths which include Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and Islam. So, it is easy to assume that each time someone is called to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he or she is being called into one of the popular world religions since Jesus Christ is connected with Christianity. But accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is so much more than a call to join a religious cult, it is a call of destiny. Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior is akin to setting sail on a profound voyage of the soul. It’s a journey marked by discovery, surrender, and transformation—a journey where the destination is not a place, but a profound relationship with God, Himself. Why is the call to follow Jesus so different? The Word of God clearly states that “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12. In other words, coming to Jesus is not just about selecting one of the ways to God or identifying with a faith because it is a reasonable thing to do. It is about the salvation of the soul of man. It is about redemption from the coming judgment on the human race because of sin. What every man does about Jesus has eternal consequences. You may find a long list of religious piety and traditions in any world religion but if you want to be saved, Jesus is the way John 14:6. So, if the call to make Jesus Christ Lord and Savior of one’s life is this important, how can you accept Him? Acknowledge Your Need. Accepting Jesus begins with recognizing your need for salvation. There is a feeling of inadequacy that every man feels. There is an inner vacuum, a space that man doesn’t know how to fill. We often come to our wit’s end. We experience situations and challenges that reveal man’s powerlessness. We struggle with sinful habits, addictions and all kinds of evil desires of the flesh. We desire to attain a state of perfection but we soon realize we cannot do so. We try to please God and man through good works but we discover they are not enough. Indeed, all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory Romans 3:23. Acknowledging your spiritual deficiency and the need for a Saviour is the first path to accepting Jesus as your Lord. Believe That Jesus Can Save You. The next step to accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is for you to put your faith in His ability to save you. You must believe that He is the Son of the Living God and that He came to the world. He was born of a virgin. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins and He rose back to life on the third day. He was taken up to heaven and He will return. You must believe that through his sacrifice, you can be forgiven and have eternal life John 3:16. “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness…” Romans 10:10. Repent and Confess Your Sins. Sin was the thing that separated us from God. Putting your faith in Jesus requires that you intentionally confess your sins and repent of them. Repentance means turning away from your sins and turning toward God. It involves a genuine change of heart and a commitment to living a life that honors God Acts 3:19. Confess Your Faith In Jesus. It is not enough to believe in your heart, you need to affirm your faith in Jesus by confessing it with your mouth. Confess your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You can do this through prayer, expressing your belief in Jesus and your desire to follow him. Romans 10:9 says confession with the mouth alongside faith in the heart is what leads to salvation. Invite Jesus Into Your Heart. Ask Him to come into your heart and begin to live there by the Holy Spirit. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” This implies that He will be the one in control of your life henceforth. You will allow Him to lead and direct your life from this moment. You will no longer do anything that will hurt or grieve Him. Seek Spiritual Growth. It will soon seem as if you didn’t accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour if you do not seek to grow in your knowledge of Him. You received the power to become a child of God when you invited Him into your life; that power is released as you grow. Grow in Him through daily fellowship with God in reading the word of God, prayer, and fellowship with other believers in a local church. Become accountable to other believers and leaders who can support and encourage you in your faith journey. Share Your Testimony With Others. Nothing solidifies your salvation experience through Jesus Christ like sharing your faith in Him with others. By sharing your faith in Jesus with others, you make it easy for people to know where you stand and you are also making Jesus known. Remember that your journey to accepting Jesus as your Lord began when you heard about Him from someone. Initiate someone else’s journey to salvation by sharing your faith with them. One of the first things Paul did as soon as he got converted was to preach the gospel Acts 9:20-21. You do not need a theological certificate to do this. All you have to do is share with people what Jesus has done in your life. If you have taken these steps, you have become a child of God. The Bible calls you a new creature. Yes, you may not have any special feeling; your skin color may not change but there is a transition from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God. You will prove this to be true as you passionately walk with God daily. Your salvation experience and who you are in Christ will become more of a reality to you as you spend time with Jesus daily praying and feeding on His word.

The spiritual life is sustained through constant communication with God and prayer is the means by which this communication is established. Prayer is indispensable! It is like the oxygen we breathe in to keep life going. One will begin to feel empty and unfulfilled when prayerlessness begins to set in. It will be hard to live a victorious Christian life when one is not praying. The flesh will dominate, sin will set in and Satan will have a field day when a Christian is prayerless. Many Christians struggle to pray and when they do, they are unsure if their prayers get to God. The disciples of Jesus had a similar experience of prayerlessness. They became so frustrated that they cried to Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray!” Luke 11:1. This struggle raises a very pertinent question, How do we pray? How can one pray effectively and consistently? The following are some tips for learning how to pray and pray efficiently. Trust the Holy Spirit. This is the most important factor in learning to pray and developing an effective prayer life. Prayer is spiritual and it would take the Holy Spirit for us to do it the right way. Most of the time, we try to impress God with sweet words instead of depending on the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26 says, “Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” So, trust the Holy Spirit each time you kneel to pray. Use the Name of Jesus Christ. The name of Jesus Christ is the authentic signature recognized in heaven that makes our prayer acceptable before God. Jesus said, “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” John 14:13-14. Give yourself to meditation in the word of God. Meditation, not just reading, the word of God has so many impacts on your prayer life. First, it shows you the will of God. This will prevent you from wasting your time asking God to do what is not in His will. In addition, the word of God adds fuel to your prayer. As you meditate in the word, you will begin to get prayer prompts that keep you praying. The more word you have absorbed during meditation, the more words you have to bring to God’s presence. Many believers find it difficult to stay in the prayer place because at some point they have nothing to say again. It will become different when you become a person who is given to meditation. Maintain a Specific Prayer time and Place if Possible. There is power in sticking to a specific place and time when it comes to prayer. It has a way of helping you stay consistent. You will be forced to keep your appointment with God if you have made a promise to meet Him regularly at a particular place and time. Jesus Christ had this lifestyle while He was on Earth. He often resorts to lonely places to pray Luke 5:16. One such place was Gethsemane where He was arrested. Keep a Prayer Journal/List: Keeping a prayer journal or a prayer list will go a long way in helping you maintain the discipline of praying. By keeping a prayer journal, you can easily find people and issues you need to pray about when none is coming to mind in the prayer place. Also, your prayer journal will help you remember and track the record of God’s faithfulness in answering your prayers. Just like anything in life, if we commit daily to the discipline of prayer, we will soon overcome our inability to pray and also fulfil the commandment to pray without ceasing, 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Faith is an indispensable spiritual commodity that every Christian should have. Faith is the currency of the kingdom of God. It is the legal tender by which believers on earth transact with God in heaven. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” In other words, it takes faith to deal with God. Also, our Christian experience is often a reflection of the quality and the quantity of our faith. The more faith we have, the more heavenly interventions, resources and provisions we can experience. Those who have and exercise their faith in God will often see God at work in their lives. In Matthew 17, the disciples did all they could to cast out a demon but they couldn’t. Then, they asked Him in a private discussion, “Why could we not cast it out?” Matthew 17:19. “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your little faith, for truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20-17:21 We can also point to things and situations that we find very difficult to deal with. Like the disciples, we ask, “Why could we not do it?” Our answer might be similar to the response Jesus gave the disciples. It could be due to our unbelief. Nothing, Jesus said, will be impossible for you if you have faith. This makes learning to have faith in God an integral part of our calling as Christians. Here are a few ways one can learn to have faith in God: Give Yourself to Reading and Meditation in the Word. As you read and meditate on several stories of men and women who lived a life of faith in the Bible, your faith will begin to grow. You will be challenged and inspired also to live and walk in faith. Your faithlessness will be exposed and you will often find yourself crying to God like the father of the child in Mark 9:24, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Listen to Messages on Faith. Messages of and on faith will also boost your faith. When you listen to anointed messages on faith, it is bound to accelerate your ability to live and walk by faith. You will see perspectives on faith that you couldn’t see by yourself during your own time of meditation in the word of God. This is why it is important to belong to a community of faith where God’s word is preached accurately. Remember, “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ” Romans 10:17. Listen to Testimonies of Faith. One of the ways you can learn to have faith is to maximize moments when people share testimonies of what God has done for them in church. It has a way of giving you the “If God can do it for him, He can do it me” effect especially when the testimony shared is similar to yours. Testimonies of the divine provision will boost your faith when you are in lack. Testimonies of healing will help you trust God for your healing when you are in sickness. To boost the faith in Mary that it was possible for her to conceive without knowing a man, Gabriel shared the testimony of Elizabeth with her. This helped the faith of Mary who eventually conceived and became the mother of Jesus. Pray a Lot. Prayer impacts and helps our faith. When the apostles were threatened and told to stop preaching in the name of Jesus, it weakened their resolve but they went back and prayed. The Bible says, “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness” Acts 4:31. In prayer, you can give God your fears and let Him replace it with faith. In prayer, God has a chance to remind you of His words that can boost your confidence. All men of faith, with testimonies and exploits of faith, are men of prayer. Take Steps of Faith. Faith will not work until you act on it. It doesn’t matter what you hear, what you do is what converts God’s word into reality. Act on the word of God as soon as it comes to you. Fear is the enemy of faith and it sets in when you delay in taking the steps of faith. You will lose the urgency and allow dissenting voices that dilute your faith to come in when you delay actions of faith. Everyone feels fear when it comes to taking actions of faith but it is taking immediate action despite fear that resolves it. One of the qualities of Abraham the father of faith is that He acts on God’s word almost immediately. He doesn’t delay! When he was asked to send the bondwoman, Hagar away, the Bible records, “So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away” Genesis 21:14. He didn’t delay. When he was asked to go and sacrifice his only begotten son just after he had sent Ishmael away, he didn’t delay. The Bible says, “So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him” Genesis 22:3. There may be moments when it seems your act of faith didn’t work out as expected, it shouldn’t deter you from trusting God even more. A child learning how to walk doesn’t give up on walking simply because he fell. You must keep trusting Him until you know Him. You must have the confidence that everything is working together for your good.
