We all go through experiences that break us. We go through situations that bring us to a state of calmness, weakness, humility and absolute dependence on God.
Sometimes, it can be a heartbreak, failure, loss, sickness, or challenges of some sort.
In a moment, our spirits are won over to Christ when we are born again but winning our soul, the development of character, and the breaking of bad habits can be very daunting.
Brokenness is one of the ways God has often employed to deal with our sins and pride so that His purpose for our lives can be established.
Until the flask was broken, the perfume could not be poured on the Lord (Mark 14:3). Until the clay jars were broken, the light from the torch within them could not be released (Judges 7:16-19).
Within us are potentials, talents, gifts, and values shrouded and locked up in bad and dangerous habits. Our clay jars need to be broken so that the graces within us can be released.
Meanwhile, brokenness can be traumatic. No one, in the natural state, wants to go through the experience. This is why we need healing after an experience of brokenness.
So, how can my brokenness be healed with the Lord’s help?
Be inspired by the purpose of the brokenness. When you keep your focus on the reason why God is taking you through the process, your healing will be quick. You need to remember that he doesn’t wound for the sake of harming us but so that we can be partakers of the divine nature (Hebrews 12:10-11). But when you beat yourself up or regret, the wound will fester. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Remember that God is committed to your quick recovery. He wants you to be healed as soon as possible. This is why Hosea 6:1-2 says, “Come, and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.” Lamentations 3:31-33 also says, “For the Lord will not cast off forever. Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.”
Stay close to the Lord. The closer you are to Him, the faster your healing. In His presence, the healing balm is poured on the wounds sustained through our experiences of brokenness.
Rejoice. If you continue to mourn, it will aggravate the sorrow in your heart. Instead, rejoice! Nehemiah 8:10 says, Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” The more joyful you are, the stronger you will become.
Obey. Sometimes, the key to our total healing is obedience. Maybe the reason the Lord is trying to break us is our disobedience to an instruction. Go and obey. Do what the Lord is showing you to do. Go and confess that sin. Go and give the right information. Obey.
Give it time. Time heals all wounds. So, give it time. Be patient with yourself and the wounds in the heart will be healed in time.
Remember, the process of brokenness is for your good and God is committed to your healing. He wants to bring the best out of you through the process. So, stay hopeful!
