“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8 KJV
Man was created in the image of God, to be obedient and submissive to God, learn His ways and follow it. But the life of man is full of iniquities, and sins against God. It started from the Garden of Eden, and passes down to the generations afterwards “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Psalm 51:5. KJV
Now, in the process of reconciliation of divinity with humanity , God in His infinite mercy gave man a second chance by giving His only begotten son for the whole world to gain salvation and eternal life John 3:16 KJV. That is Jesus, who gave his life for us to be saved. “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:2 KJV
It is important whom you believe. It is important what you believe. The Bible is clear that “neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 KJV. Only Jesus saves. When you believe in Him, your sins shall be forgiven, you receive God’s gift of eternal life. You will never perish. You have crossed from death to life.
However crucial as knowing Christ as savior and Lord is, it is only the fundamental experience of the Christian faith. If you are going to become strong in the faith and mature, you need to now begin to learn “those things which are most surely believed among us.” Luke1:1 KJV
You need to learn about repentance from dead works, faith towards God, the doctrine of baptisms, laying on of hands ,resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment and the vital doctrines of the Christian faith. Hebrews 6:1-2 KJV. Your understanding of them will determine the quality of your Christian faith, and consequently the quality of your life. What you believe affects your world view and your character, your conviction and principles that you allow to direct your life. Many Christians do not understand this. It is the reason they still remain as babies after several years in faith. It is the reason why they find it difficult to walk in dominion.
Jesus said to those who believe in Him in those days, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;” John 8:31 KJV.
What Then Should You Consider That Your Attitude Should Be?
1. First, believe in Christ as your Savior and Lord that you may surely be saved Acts 16:30-31 KJV.
2. Find a Bible believing church and identify with them as a member of their church family.
3. Take full advantage of the opportunities that are available in your church to dig deep into the word of God through Sunday school, the mid-week services, the house fellowship and any other medium of learning of the Lord and His word through the Bible that is available at your church.
4. Read. There are many books that deal with the fundamental teachings of Christ. locate them, buy them, and read them. A reader is a leader,
5. Find short term Bible college training programs, seminars and conferences that can enrich your knowledge of God and engage in them.
It is time to stop being a baby believer. It is time for you to go on to maturity, “Therefore leaving the principle of the doctrine of Christ, let us go unto perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith towards God.” Hebrews 6:1 KJV.
