This question is one that many people may be wondering about. Faith is belief and trust and loyalty to God. Faith is defined clearly in Hebrews 11.1, “now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” You may believe that you have faith but you are not sure how you have it and on the other hand you may think you don’t have any faith and you are unsure how you may be able to get faith. Did you know that God gives each and every one of us faith? Yes, he does. The Lord has designed each of us to have faith. In Romans 12.3, “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you; do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”
By having faith in God, it makes it possible for us to know that he can do anything for us that he believes is best. The Lord tells us that all we need to do is come to him and rely on him because he can do anything for us. Believing in God and having faith is so important, “and without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11.6
There are many examples in the Bible wherein the Lord healed many people due to faith. In Matthew 8.5-10, our Lord Jesus went to the city of Capernaum and an army officer asked the Lord to help his servant who was at the officer’s home in pain. The Lord told the officer that he would go to his home and heal his servant. The officer told Jesus that he was not worthy for him to go to his home and if the Lord commanded it, the officer believed that his servant would be healed. In verse 8.10, “when Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to those who were following him, I tell you the truth, this is the greatest faith I have found, even in Israel.”
Believing, having faith and trusting in God helps to reassure us that we have faith in God. “Since we have been made right with God by our faith, we have peace with God. This happened through our Lord Jesus Christ, who through our faith has brought us into that blessing of God’s grace that we now enjoy.” Romans 5.1-2
