Patience is defined as having the ability to accept, wait, tolerate delays without getting upset or angry and remaining calm despite the difficulties or suffering that it may cause. Did you know that God has chosen us and by this he calls for us to be patient? Yes, he does, in Colossians 3:12, “therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Abraham waited patiently and received what the Lord promised him. Hebrews 6:15.
It is awesome that the Lord has patience with us although we do not deserve it. Quite often we fall short of what is expected of us and God knows that we are not perfect, and he is always patient with us. It states in 1 Timothy 1:16, “but I was given mercy so that in me, the worst of all sinners, Christ Jesus could show that he has patience without limit. His patience with me made me an example for those who would believe in him and have life forever.
In our daily lives it seems that the day to day struggles we may have including problems at home, work, family, health or other types of issues that may seem to be so overbearing at times that our patience is tested. It’s so good to know that no matter what we may be going through God will always provide us with the comfort of knowing that he is always here with us to help us whenever we need him. The Lord strengthens us with all power through his glory so that we may have endurance and patience. Colossians 1:11. In Romans 12:12, “be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
The Lord works with us to provide us with the patience that we need for whatever we may endure. All we have to do is to continue to trust in him and he will guide us through. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7. In James 5:8, “you too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
