How Can I Ask The Lord For Help When I Feel Emptiness?

Emptiness is that state in which we fail or have no emotion, interest or sense of purpose. Life has lost its substance and meaning, we feel dry within and without. We are not coordinated. We are not in charge. We are not present there is a disconnection from our true self. It is usually accompanied with feeling numb or alone. Work becomes unsatisfying. We feel unsuccessful. Nothing is exciting. Our relationships are unfulfilling.

When there is prolonged feeling of emptiness, it might lead to further psychological complications. This is why it must be addressed as soon as possible. How then can I ask the Lord for help when I feel empty?

  1. Acknowledge the feeling of emptiness. Be sincere enough to identify how you feel. Don’t deny it. That will be synonymous to self-deception. God cannot help you when you are not open hearted. There is nothing to hide from him. He knows and understands how us far more than we understand ourselves. So, it is in our best interest to acknowledge and own up sincerely to Him about how we have been feeling.

  2. Remember it is a feeling. Feelings are temporary. They are often based on certain transient circumstances. You should never allow a short term situation leave a permanent damage on your life. Learn to live by faith not feeling.

  3. Feed on the Word. Emptiness indicates a vacuum. Fill that space with the word. Come to His table and feast on the bread of life. As you feed on the word, you’ll be filled. You will soon realize that that inner space has been occupied by His word. This is why the scripture says, “…man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” Matthew 4:4. In other words, His word is a kind of bread but it does not fill our stomach. We feed our inner being when we feed on His word.

  4. Spend time in His presence. It is in His presence that we trade our sorrows for His joy, our ashes for His beauty, our sicknesses for His healing, our lack for His wealth and our emptiness for His infilling. Spending quality time in His presence is the fastest way to get rid of our feeling of emptiness. As a matter of fact all the other principles are better expressed in the place of prayer.

  5. Hangout and speak with trusted leaders and friends. Whatever God wants to do for you will be done through men. When He wanted to save us, He had to come through and in form of a Man, Jesus Christ. Sometimes, we may never be able to get over our feeling of emptiness until we share with fellow men. God can use them to help us see our situations with a positive perspective thus relieving us of our emptiness.

We don’t have to remain empty if we can trust Him and cast all our cares on Him. The Lord is always there to help us out. As Corrie ten Boom said, “There is no pit so deep, that He is not deeper still; with Jesus even in our darkest moments, the best remains and the very best is yet to be.” We can go to Him for help in our times of need.
