How To Spread The Gospel To Others

There is no other time in the world when the gospel needs to be preached. Despite industrialization, technological advancements and sophisticated innovations many of the human problems are not solved. As a matter of fact, every solution seems to introduce a new problem.

The gospel, however, is the holistic solution to the human problems. The gospel is not a quick fix or a religious creed meant to temporarily alleviate human pain; it is the extraordinary Message of God’s powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts him.

The gospel doesn’t just save the soul, it also transforms the mind and heals the body. There is no need of man or woman that is not met in the gospel.

Unfortunately, the custodians of the gospel are not doing enough to spread the message. We are either timid, ignorant of the gospel’s power, or lack the wisdom to spread the message.

What Is The Gospel?

It is the Good News of the coming of Jesus Christ to provide forgiveness for the sins of all who will believe.

The coming of the Lord

The Life of Christ

The Death of Christ

The Resurrection of Christ

The Ascension of Christ (The Lord Jesus went to be with Father God)

The Cause of Christ (The Holy Spirit of God is sent)

The Victory of Christ (Christ Himself will come back)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Romans 1.16.

“In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1.14

“If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10.9

For those who do not know how to do this great mission of spreading the gospel here are a few ways you can do this work:

  1. By Life: Your life is the greatest way you can effectively preach the gospel. If this is not in place, no method you adopt will work. Your life will nullify your message. Your message will be so lifeless and impotent. It will have no effect on your audience. This is why Jesus didn’t call us preachers when He gave us the Great Commission. We were called witnesses. In other words, people who have experienced what they now tell others. The gospel that hasn’t transformed you won’t transform others through you. This is a way people are attracted to us when we live out the gospel. We are shining the light and “Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising” Isaiah 60:3. People that come close to us should perceive the aroma of Christ even when we have not opened our lips to preach. Our lifestyle should convict them of their sins and challenge them to live a better life.

  2. By Lips: The word has to be spoken if it will work. Until the word is spoken, the Holy Spirit has no raw material to convict the sinner and God has given us that rare privilege. He has decided to save people only through the words spoken by the saints under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I have often wondered why the angel had to tell Cornelius to send for Peter who will tell him what he must do Acts 10:3-6. The question is, can’t the angel simply go ahead and preach to him? This is why we must open our mouths and preach the gospel; angels won’t do it and this was what happened as Peter preached,

“While Peter was saying these words, the Holy Spirit came on all those who were hearing the word” Acts 10:44. Take note that it was on “all those who were hearing the word.” The Ephesians trusted Jesus “after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation” Ephesians 1:13.

Concerning the woman with the issue of blood, the scriptures says, “When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment” Mark 5:25. People either got saved or healed after hearing the word. But “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14. We must actively use our lips.

  1. By Letters: In case we cannot use our lips, we can put pen to paper and preach the word. One thing about the written word is that it does not die even after the writer is gone. It does not preach to a single soul but to as many as will read. This is what the Bible has been doing for ages. Tracts have been very effective in preaching the word. In this digital world, the opportunities to preach the gospel are limitless. You can use your social media handles, blogs and many other platforms to disseminate the word. The written word has been found to be helpful in cases or places where we cannot preach with mouth.

These seem to be the three basic ways we can spread the gospel. These methods can be tweaked as we trust the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. We must follow the Holy Spirit so our preaching will not be boring or a religious burden to people who hear us. The gospel is not boring. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives” Proverbs 11:30. We must also learn to maximize events around us for the gospel. For example, people are prone to listen to the gospel when someone dies. May the Lord give us grace, Amen.
